Project Overview
NSM was recently awarded the contract for the maintenance and sustainment of two Canberra Class Landing Helicopter Decks (LHD) and 12 LHD Landing Crafts (LLC). The project began with an initial six-month handover and phase-in period beginning in December 2018, officially commencing in June 2019. Since then, NSM has provided a range of services such as asset management, ship repair and refurbishment, engineering support services, and procurement and logistics, among others.
TBH’s Role
TBH was initially engaged to build a programme for the Stage Gate sequence. This required TBH to conduct
a review of key milestones that are important to Defence along with any exit criteria required to complete each Gate. The Stage Gates cover the earliest work such as the identification of maintenance tasks and sub-contractors all the way through to the maintenance period and sea release. After the completion of the Stage Gate schedule by TBH, NSM asked for further assistance in the role of production scheduler. This role required TBH to track all the maintenance activities being done on the ship each day and document all of the hours worked. Daily and weekly reports were generated to show performance and highlight areas of improvement.
The TBH Difference
TBH was able to use years of experience in the industry to add further insight and recommendations to
the Stage Gate framework. Meetings were held with the reporting team to ensure that the programme fed seamlessly into their reporting tools without having to use additional workarounds.
