ME Consultant interviewed six team members about the company\u2019s powerful legacy and competitive advantage\u2026<\/span><\/i><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">CHRISTOPHER NICOLAS, DIRECTOR\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">You\u2019ve\u00a0been part of TBH\u2019s journey for\u00a0a number of\u00a0years; as the firm celebrates its 60th anniversary, how would you best describe the TBH \u2018brand\u2019?\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cI\u2019d\u00a0say that we strive for excellence; we really strive to be project delivery experts &#8211; and indeed,\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0our tagline for the company. We\u00a0to position\u00a0ourselves as experts in fields as diverse as time management,\u00a0claims\u00a0and dispute resolution, and so on.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cWe&#8217;re not a company with thousands and thousands of employees.\u00a0We&#8217;re\u00a060 years old, and, in our mind, having 350 people is large for us. Bigger businesses may have thousands of staff, but you simply\u00a0can\u2019t\u00a0have thousands of subject matter experts, and for us, quality is everything.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cWe believe in our ability to answer certain, quite\u00a0difficult questions.\u00a0How do we actually help clients deliver projects on time and within budget?\u00a0How do we help them avoid contractual disputes? How do we mitigate our clients\u2019 risks? These are all questions that our 60 years\u2019 experience means we are well-placed to answer.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">With the ever-growing scale of projects, how does TBH adapt to the challenges?\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cI think\u00a0that in reality, what&#8217;s\u00a0unique to the region &#8211;\u00a0what\u2019s\u00a0the driving factor here &#8211; is that, for a lot of the big\u00a0programmes,\u00a0clients\u00a0want to\u00a0move\u00a0quickly. They want to\u00a0evolve\u00a0their cities, and they can only do that with a rapid, fast-paced evolution of infrastructure. Time is, clearly, always of\u00a0the essence. Twinned with this, costs are also of paramount importance &#8211; and\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0in these two areas that we really have exceptional subject matter\u00a0expertise.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cWhen\u00a0you have challenging timelines on complex projects, you need\u00a0a very strong, independent voice that\u00a0is able to\u00a0provide\u00a0sound advice to clients without influence from other parties or any other agendas. Whether from pre-construction activities, commencement works or enabling works,\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0able to look at all\u00a0facets\u00a0of the project. We will really\u00a0scrutinise, then come back to our client and give the best advice we\u00a0possibly can.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">How would you describe TBH\u2019s Middle East focus areas for 2025?\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cWhile we love many areas of diverse and complex project work, for 2025, we will\u00a0be focusing on:\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Energy\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Transportation and Infrastructure\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Building and Construction\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Special Projects<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cAs an example of our special projects focus,\u00a0we\u2019ve\u00a0been doing a huge amount of work relating to data centers in Asia and Australia &#8211; and one our initiatives this year is that\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0looking to make sure that we expand those services to the market here.\u00a0We&#8217;re\u00a0already discussing this important transition with one of our leading Australian clients, in fact.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">How is TBH dealing with the \u2018race-for-skills\u2019,\u00a0and ensuring that the company has the right people with the right raft of experience and knowledge?\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cFor us,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0about ensuring that the company always has the right people, with the right experience, nurturing them from the ground up. We are long-term players and want to create an environment that encourages excellence and real skills growth.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cPersonally,\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0a good example of this. I started here at TBH as a junior consultant in my second year of university, and I trained during my university years, building the key skillsets.\u00a0It&#8217;s exactly the same here now, as we are hiring fresh\u00a0graduates and then methodically upskilling them.\u00a0We ensure that we can keep up with the clients\u2019 demands for great resources, and along with focusing on graduate level, we are also very agile as a business, and we encourage highly qualified people to move across from our Australian and Asian offices.\u00a0There&#8217;s\u00a0a keen international interest in a lot of our projects here in the GCC, and that\u00a0benefits\u00a0us, because we can bring across someone\u00a0who\u2019s\u00a0been fully trained in the same systems and procedures.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cAs a next step, they can go back to their home office in Australia with a much broader raft of experience, or they can stay and advance their career here. This is\u00a0a very strong\u00a0way of\u00a0ensuring\u00a0not only the business\u2019 development and growth but the career paths of talented individuals\u00a0as well.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>ROSINE NABAA, SENIOR CONSULTANT\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">What are some of the key changes that you have seen in the style of client projects in recent years?\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cThe first aspect to mention is the sheer scale of the projects. I would say that the projects\u00a0I&#8217;m\u00a0working on\u00a0at the moment\u00a0&#8211; specifically in KSA &#8211; are\u00a0on\u00a0a much larger scale, and\u00a0considerably more\u00a0complex, than anything\u00a0we\u2019ve\u00a0seen previously.\u00a0They\u2019re\u00a0also very much \u2018out of the ordinary\u2019,\u00a0with\u00a0numerous\u00a0exceptional features and innovations.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cAnother factor is that today, clients are looking for\u00a0increasing\u00a0capability to use and deploy\u00a0digitalised\u00a0tools. Given current trends in the workplace, people can work from all over the world, and the client is looking for a transparent platform that combines the raft of stakeholder contributions. The client wants easier,\u00a0more\u00a0accessible tools that enable them to accurately\u00a0monitor\u00a0the project,\u00a0checking\u00a0progress,\u00a0delays\u00a0and so on.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cI think we&#8217;re shifting towards a more technology-driven style of project, and\u00a0there\u2019s no doubt that this technology is even more vital when you\u2019re dealing with large scale projects that have inherent complexity in their designs.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Do you see particular trends in the way that TBH has evolved over its 60 years in the market; what do you feel really makes it stand out?\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cI\u2019ve\u00a0been here six years\u00a0now\u00a0and I can already say that I feel very much part of the growth that we see happening in the\u00a0region, as well as the rapid growth of TBH as a business. From contributing to the growth of the UAE office, to being part of the team launching the\u00a0KSA\u00a0office,\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0personally seen so many landmarks on that journey. TBH\u2019s fast growth makes us all feel very proud &#8211; but I think what separates TBH from other firms in the market, and what makes it stand out as a company, is not only the technical capabilities and the strength of projects we deliver, but also the people and culture within the team.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cTBH has successfully built a culture where everybody feels valued and where everyone\u2019s work is appreciated. We all work as a team, and\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0all concerned about each other&#8217;s career growth. Here,\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0in an environment where the culture is based on a \u2018family\u2019 mentality. You can speak up about any concerns that you may have and can easily express yourself to the management.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Do you perceive there to be any unique challenges when dealing with the\u00a0KSA\u00a0market, and how does it differ from other territories?\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cThis is a\u00a0really good\u00a0question, because being part of the KSA business and working on giga projects, my feeling overall is that\u00a0the market\u00a0is very much into innovation. All the projects there are very much technology-driven,\u00a0in order to\u00a0meet their extremely challenging\u00a0timeframes\u00a0and deal effectively with many\u00a0different levels\u00a0of complexity.\u00a0Yet\u00a0again,\u00a0TBH\u2019s ability to work as a team is extremely helpful and enables us to bring the right skillsets and solutions very consistently.\u00a0I feel this\u00a0is\u00a0the\u00a0real USP for our business and often places us ahead of the competition.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">What about TBH\u2019s ongoing commitment to key areas of ED&amp;I? How do these help create\u00a0a\u00a0genuinely \u2018level playing\u00a0field\u2019?<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cThe first thing I should say here is that we\u00a0don&#8217;t\u00a0only work at a scale within the region;\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0constantly in touch with ED&amp;I representatives in our other offices overseas, for example, in Sydney, Australia. So, effectively\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0working as a much bigger team, and we can bring broader learning and initiatives to the region.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cWe make sure that we set a range of specific initiatives, and everyone &#8211; from top to bottom of the company &#8211; is involved in meeting those goals.\u00a0So, when we actually create the initiatives, at the same time we can pass them on to the management and positive action is immediately underway.\u00a0The view is that everyone\u2019s opinion really matters, and TBH\u2019s philosophy as a business is that we are better-placed to thrive when there is a diverse level playing-field &#8211; one where everyone\u2019s feedback is seen as hugely valuable.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>AYTUG OZKAN, DIRECTOR\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">How do you feel when you hear that TBH is celebrating 60 years in the market? What is the \u2018X Factor\u2019 that has added to its brand success?\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cIf I had to pinpoint the \u2018X Factor\u2019 behind TBH\u2019s success,\u00a0I\u2019d\u00a0say it all comes down to service delivery experience. We\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0just complete projects &#8211; we build strategic partnerships with our clients. Our approach goes beyond transactional relationships; we work closely with clients to\u00a0truly understand\u00a0their needs,\u00a0challenges\u00a0and long-term goals. This level of engagement and reliability has led to an incredibly high client retention rate, with 80% of our work coming from repeat\u00a0clients.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">What do you see as the main\u00a0points\u00a0of differentiation between TBH and its competitors?\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cFirstly,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0our ability to service the full project life cycle, from initiation to post-completion. Unlike firms that\u00a0specialise\u00a0in just one phase of a project, we provide end-to-end support.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cAt the initiation stage, we focus on strategic planning and advisory, helping clients define their project vision, assess\u00a0feasibility\u00a0and set\u00a0a strong foundation\u00a0for success. As the project progresses, we bring in our\u00a0expertise\u00a0in project controls, risk management, and delivery oversight. Then, after completion, we continue to add value through dispute resolution.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Are there significant plans ahead for further international expansion?\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cWe have recently opened our Malaysia office,\u00a0an important step\u00a0in our international growth. In the short term, our focus is to grow in a steady and sustainable manner within the markets we currently\u00a0operate\u00a0in.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">How do you go about structuring the firm\u2019s client-facing teams &#8211;\u00a0eg, do you\u00a0prefer a more flat, non-hierarchical structure, where communication and teamwork are key?\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cWhen it comes to structuring our client-facing teams, communication and teamwork\u00a0is\u00a0absolutely essential. What lessons do you believe it has learned &#8211; and applied &#8211; most successfully?\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cPersonally,\u00a0I feel that I\u2019ve really\u00a0benefitted\u00a0from the experience that the business has gained over the years &#8211; and I also feel proud to be part of an\u00a0organisation\u00a0that has grown and evolved over such a long\u00a0timeframe. It gives you\u00a0a strong sense\u00a0of security, too, because a company that has sustained its market presence for 60 years is clearly built for long-term success.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cWhat\u2019s\u00a0more, if\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0talking about lessons learned, one of the key factors is the importance of succession planning. TBH pays a lot of attention to this aspect, consistently preparing more junior staff to develop their careers within the business and having the clearest possible path to becoming more senior.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">How do you see the role of strong\u00a0mentoring at TBH, and how does this improve the quality and effectiveness of client engagement?<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cMentoring is\u00a0fundamental to staff development at\u00a0TBH;\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0very much part of both the overall value-set and the day-to-day. For example, everyone has a\u00a0mentor\u00a0and\u00a0then\u00a0is encouraged to become a mentor in turn.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cMentorship provides guidance and empowers individuals to engage more effectively with clients. From\u00a0day\u00a0one,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0clear that the role\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0just about sitting\u00a0behind a\u00a0computer,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0about confidently presenting your work and clearly communicating its value to the client. This has allowed us to grow a significant KSA-based team, develop local talent, and better service our clients\u2019 requirements.
