At a time when it has never been more crucial to offer a range of sophisticated, one-stop services, TBH celebrates six decades of continual success and market strength.\u00a0At\u00a0its 60th anniversary, what are the touchstone values, the dynamics and the corporate mindsets that have enabled this international growth? ME Consultant interviewed six team members about the company\u2019s powerful legacy and competitive advantage\u2026<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

CHRISTOPHER NICOLAS, DIRECTOR\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

You\u2019ve\u00a0been part of TBH\u2019s journey for\u00a0a number of\u00a0years; as the firm celebrates its 60th anniversary, how would you best describe the TBH \u2018brand\u2019?\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

\u201cI\u2019d\u00a0say that we strive for excellence; we really strive to be project delivery experts – and indeed,\u00a0that’s\u00a0our tagline for the company. We\u00a0to position\u00a0ourselves as experts in fields as diverse as time management,\u00a0claims\u00a0and dispute resolution, and so on.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe’re not a company with thousands and thousands of employees.\u00a0We’re\u00a060 years old, and, in our mind, having 350 people is large for us. Bigger businesses may have thousands of staff, but you simply\u00a0can\u2019t\u00a0have thousands of subject matter experts, and for us, quality is everything.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe believe in our ability to answer certain, quite\u00a0difficult questions.\u00a0How do we actually help clients deliver projects on time and within budget?\u00a0How do we help them avoid contractual disputes? How do we mitigate our clients\u2019 risks? These are all questions that our 60 years\u2019 experience means we are well-placed to answer.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With the ever-growing scale of projects, how does TBH adapt to the challenges?\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

\u201cI think\u00a0that in reality, what’s\u00a0unique to the region –\u00a0what\u2019s\u00a0the driving factor here – is that, for a lot of the big\u00a0programmes,\u00a0clients\u00a0want to\u00a0move\u00a0quickly. They want to\u00a0evolve\u00a0their cities, and they can only do that with a rapid, fast-paced evolution of infrastructure. Time is, clearly, always of\u00a0the essence. Twinned with this, costs are also of paramount importance – and\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0in these two areas that we really have exceptional subject matter\u00a0expertise.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen\u00a0you have challenging timelines on complex projects, you need\u00a0a very strong, independent voice that\u00a0is able to\u00a0provide\u00a0sound advice to clients without influence from other parties or any other agendas. Whether from pre-construction activities, commencement works or enabling works,\u00a0we’re\u00a0able to look at all\u00a0facets\u00a0of the project. We will really\u00a0scrutinise, then come back to our client and give the best advice we\u00a0possibly can.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How would you describe TBH\u2019s Middle East focus areas for 2025?\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

\u201cWhile we love many areas of diverse and complex project work, for 2025, we will\u00a0be focusing on:\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u201cAs an example of our special projects focus,\u00a0we\u2019ve\u00a0been doing a huge amount of work relating to data centers in Asia and Australia – and one our initiatives this year is that\u00a0we’re\u00a0looking to make sure that we expand those services to the market here.\u00a0We’re\u00a0already discussing this important transition with one of our leading Australian clients, in fact.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    How is TBH dealing with the \u2018race-for-skills\u2019,\u00a0and ensuring that the company has the right people with the right raft of experience and knowledge?\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

    \u201cFor us,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0about ensuring that the company always has the right people, with the right experience, nurturing them from the ground up. We are long-term players and want to create an environment that encourages excellence and real skills growth.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u201cPersonally,\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0a good example of this. I started here at TBH as a junior consultant in my second year of university, and I trained during my university years, building the key skillsets.\u00a0It’s exactly the same here now, as we are hiring fresh\u00a0graduates and then methodically upskilling them.\u00a0We ensure that we can keep up with the clients\u2019 demands for great resources, and along with focusing on graduate level, we are also very agile as a business, and we encourage highly qualified people to move across from our Australian and Asian offices.\u00a0There’s\u00a0a keen international interest in a lot of our projects here in the GCC, and that\u00a0benefits\u00a0us, because we can bring across someone\u00a0who\u2019s\u00a0been fully trained in the same systems and procedures.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u201cAs a next step, they can go back to their home office in Australia with a much broader raft of experience, or they can stay and advance their career here. This is\u00a0a very strong\u00a0way of\u00a0ensuring\u00a0not only the business\u2019 development and growth but the career paths of talented individuals\u00a0as well.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    ROSINE NABAA, SENIOR CONSULTANT\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    What are some of the key changes that you have seen in the style of client projects in recent years?\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

    \u201cThe first aspect to mention is the sheer scale of the projects. I would say that the projects\u00a0I’m\u00a0working on\u00a0at the moment\u00a0– specifically in KSA – are\u00a0on\u00a0a much larger scale, and\u00a0considerably more\u00a0complex, than anything\u00a0we\u2019ve\u00a0seen previously.\u00a0They\u2019re\u00a0also very much \u2018out of the ordinary\u2019,\u00a0with\u00a0numerous\u00a0exceptional features and innovations.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u201cAnother factor is that today, clients are looking for\u00a0increasing\u00a0capability to use and deploy\u00a0digitalised\u00a0tools. Given current trends in the workplace, people can work from all over the world, and the client is looking for a transparent platform that combines the raft of stakeholder contributions. The client wants easier,\u00a0more\u00a0accessible tools that enable them to accurately\u00a0monitor\u00a0the project,\u00a0checking\u00a0progress,\u00a0delays\u00a0and so on.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u201cI think we’re shifting towards a more technology-driven style of project, and\u00a0there\u2019s no doubt that this technology is even more vital when you\u2019re dealing with large scale projects that have inherent complexity in their designs.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Do you see particular trends in the way that TBH has evolved over its 60 years in the market; what do you feel really makes it stand out?\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

    \u201cI\u2019ve\u00a0been here six years\u00a0now\u00a0and I can already say that I feel very much part of the growth that we see happening in the\u00a0region, as well as the rapid growth of TBH as a business. From contributing to the growth of the UAE office, to being part of the team launching the\u00a0KSA\u00a0office,\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0personally seen so many landmarks on that journey. TBH\u2019s fast growth makes us all feel very proud – but I think what separates TBH from other firms in the market, and what makes it stand out as a company, is not only the technical capabilities and the strength of projects we deliver, but also the people and culture within the team.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u201cTBH has successfully built a culture where everybody feels valued and where everyone\u2019s work is appreciated. We all work as a team, and\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0all concerned about each other’s career growth. Here,\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0in an environment where the culture is based on a \u2018family\u2019 mentality. You can speak up about any concerns that you may have and can easily express yourself to the management.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Do you perceive there to be any unique challenges when dealing with the\u00a0KSA\u00a0market, and how does it differ from other territories?\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

    \u201cThis is a\u00a0really good\u00a0question, because being part of the KSA business and working on giga projects, my feeling overall is that\u00a0the market\u00a0is very much into innovation. All the projects there are very much technology-driven,\u00a0in order to\u00a0meet their extremely challenging\u00a0timeframes\u00a0and deal effectively with many\u00a0different levels\u00a0of complexity.\u00a0Yet\u00a0again,\u00a0TBH\u2019s ability to work as a team is extremely helpful and enables us to bring the right skillsets and solutions very consistently.\u00a0I feel this\u00a0is\u00a0the\u00a0real USP for our business and often places us ahead of the competition.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    What about TBH\u2019s ongoing commitment to key areas of ED&I? How do these help create\u00a0a\u00a0genuinely \u2018level playing\u00a0field\u2019?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

    \u201cThe first thing I should say here is that we\u00a0don’t\u00a0only work at a scale within the region;\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0constantly in touch with ED&I representatives in our other offices overseas, for example, in Sydney, Australia. So, effectively\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0working as a much bigger team, and we can bring broader learning and initiatives to the region.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u201cWe make sure that we set a range of specific initiatives, and everyone – from top to bottom of the company – is involved in meeting those goals.\u00a0So, when we actually create the initiatives, at the same time we can pass them on to the management and positive action is immediately underway.\u00a0The view is that everyone\u2019s opinion really matters, and TBH\u2019s philosophy as a business is that we are better-placed to thrive when there is a diverse level playing-field – one where everyone\u2019s feedback is seen as hugely valuable.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    AYTUG OZKAN, DIRECTOR\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    How do you feel when you hear that TBH is celebrating 60 years in the market? What is the \u2018X Factor\u2019 that has added to its brand success?\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

    \u201cIf I had to pinpoint the \u2018X Factor\u2019 behind TBH\u2019s success,\u00a0I\u2019d\u00a0say it all comes down to service delivery experience. We\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0just complete projects – we build strategic partnerships with our clients. Our approach goes beyond transactional relationships; we work closely with clients to\u00a0truly understand\u00a0their needs,\u00a0challenges\u00a0and long-term goals. This level of engagement and reliability has led to an incredibly high client retention rate, with 80% of our work coming from repeat\u00a0clients.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    What do you see as the main\u00a0points\u00a0of differentiation between TBH and its competitors?\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

    \u201cFirstly,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0our ability to service the full project life cycle, from initiation to post-completion. Unlike firms that\u00a0specialise\u00a0in just one phase of a project, we provide end-to-end support.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u201cAt the initiation stage, we focus on strategic planning and advisory, helping clients define their project vision, assess\u00a0feasibility\u00a0and set\u00a0a strong foundation\u00a0for success. As the project progresses, we bring in our\u00a0expertise\u00a0in project controls, risk management, and delivery oversight. Then, after completion, we continue to add value through dispute resolution.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Are there significant plans ahead for further international expansion?\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

    \u201cWe have recently opened our Malaysia office,\u00a0an important step\u00a0in our international growth. In the short term, our focus is to grow in a steady and sustainable manner within the markets we currently\u00a0operate\u00a0in.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    How do you go about structuring the firm\u2019s client-facing teams –\u00a0eg, do you\u00a0prefer a more flat, non-hierarchical structure, where communication and teamwork are key?\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

    \u201cWhen it comes to structuring our client-facing teams, communication and teamwork\u00a0is\u00a0absolutely essential. However, what truly\u00a0sets\u00a0our approach apart is that our clients\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0just work with an individual or a single team – they gain access to the collective\u00a0expertise\u00a0of our entire company.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u201cRather than\u00a0operating\u00a0in silos, we ensure that our client-facing teams are fully supported by the knowledge and experience of our global experts. This means that no matter where a project is based or what challenges arise,\u00a0our clients\u00a0benefit\u00a0from the collective knowledge, proven best practices, and technical\u00a0expertise\u00a0drawn from our entire\u00a0company.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    What about the role of\u00a0mentoring here at TBH?\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

    \u201cWe take a structured approach to mentoring, ensuring that our people receive continuous guidance and support throughout their careers. There are four key stages in our mentoring journey \u2013\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Tell us something about your own journey at TBH – what distinctive features does the company have in terms of its recruitment and empowerment?\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

    \u201cWhen I first joined TBH, I quickly progressed within the business, taking on greater responsibilities within my first year.\u00a0I really feel this\u00a0reflects the empowerment that we are given here by TBH; everyone\u00a0in the company is thoroughly empowered to learn,\u00a0to develop\u00a0and – ultimately –\u00a0to expand\u00a0their network within the industry.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u201cFor example, I was given the opportunity to learn more about critical areas of business development, and additionally, I was then supported by TBH through sponsored training, attending technical and non-technical training courses – and that helped me a lot, really expanding my knowledge and skills.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    What do you feel about the firm celebrating 60 years? What lessons do you believe it has learned – and applied – most successfully?\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

    \u201cPersonally,\u00a0I feel that I\u2019ve really\u00a0benefitted\u00a0from the experience that the business has gained over the years – and I also feel proud to be part of an\u00a0organisation\u00a0that has grown and evolved over such a long\u00a0timeframe. It gives you\u00a0a strong sense\u00a0of security, too, because a company that has sustained its market presence for 60 years is clearly built for long-term success.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u201cWhat\u2019s\u00a0more, if\u00a0we’re\u00a0talking about lessons learned, one of the key factors is the importance of succession planning. TBH pays a lot of attention to this aspect, consistently preparing more junior staff to develop their careers within the business and having the clearest possible path to becoming more senior.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    How do you see the role of strong\u00a0mentoring at TBH, and how does this improve the quality and effectiveness of client engagement?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

    \u201cMentoring is\u00a0fundamental to staff development at\u00a0TBH;\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0very much part of both the overall value-set and the day-to-day. For example, everyone has a\u00a0mentor\u00a0and\u00a0then\u00a0is encouraged to become a mentor in turn.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u201cMentorship provides guidance and empowers individuals to engage more effectively with clients. Team members are consistently given opportunities to work directly with clients, and strong mentoring helps them do so with confidence\u2014ensuring the highest standards of quality in their work.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u201cThis gives junior team members the chance to build meaningful client relationships early on. From\u00a0day\u00a0one,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0clear that the role\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0just about sitting\u00a0behind a\u00a0computer,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0about confidently presenting your work and clearly communicating its value to the client. That culture of mentorship is a true strength of TBH and a key driver of the continued success of its teams.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    With the firm now celebrating its 60th anniversary, what do you feel has been distinctive about the business and enabled its consistent growth?\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

    \u201cThe first thing I\u00a0would say is that TBH consistently produces high quality work and aims to set\u00a0a very high\u00a0standard across its portfolio of activities here in the GCC. I would\u00a0also\u00a0say that\u00a0TBH\u00a0has\u00a0very strong\u00a0credibility with its clients, servicing\u00a0a very broad\u00a0range of major developers\u00a0and main contractors.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    We hear a good deal about the ever-growing market in KSA; how has TBH responded to this shift in emphasis?\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

    \u201cTBH has responded strongly to the needs of the ever-growing market in the\u00a0KSA, where it can provide real value in meeting the challenges of Saudi Vision 2030. As a company, it has shown excellence, as well as the ability to work smart.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u201cMega-projects across the region have been\u00a0highly innovative, often leading in areas such as technology while also setting extremely challenging timeframes, and TBH has consistently demonstrated its ability to meet these diverse and demanding requirements.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Do you see any particular trends in terms of these project timeframes over the last several years?\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

    \u201cCertainly, yes. The trend now is that clients want to move\u00a0really fast; they want to speed up the project to reach the deadlines set by Saudi Vision 2030. It is only the companies that can effectively work at that speed that will stay in the game.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u201cAlso, KSA is now setting\u00a0perhaps the\u00a0highest standards in the world in terms of expectations about 360-degree project management. This is not a simple remit, because it involves a host of complex and sophisticated factors, such as the overall\u00a0quest for\u00a0sustainability, both in terms of delivery and\u00a0subsequent\u00a0operation.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    What are some of the\u00a0risk\u00a0management protocols that TBH puts in place to\u00a0maximise\u00a0project efficiency and delivery?\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

    \u201cTBH takes a proactive and structured approach to risk management –\u00a0identifying\u00a0potential issues early, applying targeted mitigation strategies, and\u00a0maintaining\u00a0regular reviews. This ensures risks are managed effectively to support efficient delivery, informed\u00a0decision-making\u00a0and alignment with project\u00a0goals.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    What about the flexible working protocols at TBH; have\u00a0these helped empower your own role here?\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

    \u201cFlexible working is\u00a0very important\u00a0here at TBH, and\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0no doubt that it enhances employee engagement and motivation. Personally, I appreciate the trust and respect that comes with flexible working; it not only helps ensure that individuals and teams can work in a comfortable way, but it\u00a0also\u00a0enables the correct route to meeting and exceeding the client\u2019s brief.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

    With 60 years in the market, what special landmarks do you see as defining TBH\u2019s journey?\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

    \u201cAfter building a successful business in Australia over multiple decades, the decision to pursue international expansion over the last twenty years was a significant landmark which has helped shape not only the business today, but also my own career.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u201cAn international footprint reduces geographic risk, in an industry where markets, even the most mature, are cyclical. This allows TBH to focus our growth on markets with the strongest demand at any given time – and\u00a0a great example\u00a0of this currently is the KSA market.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    We hear a good deal about the ever-growing project appetite in KSA; how has TBH responded to this shift in emphasis?\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

    \u201cWhilst TBH has supported clients in KSA for more than a decade, we made a significant commitment to the market in setting up our\u00a0office in Riyadh\u00a0in 2021. This has allowed us to grow a significant KSA-based team, develop local talent, and better service our clients\u2019 requirements. We look forward to continuing to grow our presence in both KSA and the greater Middle East markets for years to come.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    In a challenging sector, what are the key skills that you believe\u00a0give\u00a0TBH its competitive advantage?\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

    \u201cTBH is focused on supporting our clients with their greatest \u2018pain-points\u2019.\u00a0This problem-solving mentality is central to everything we undertake, ensuring that there is a clear focus on the outcomes that will be most beneficial to our clients.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    TBH is very well positioned to support\u00a0timely\u00a0delivery of projects, with one of our foundational service lines being Time\u00a0Management. This support includes full development life-cycle\u00a0master\u00a0schedules, tracking and reporting on progress, early warning\u00a0procedures\u00a0and proactive claims management, and advising on\u00a0possible mitigation\u00a0measures to get projects back on track.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Tell us more about the key Middle East focus areas for 2025; how will you go about developing these?\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

    \u201cAs an industry,\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0fortunate with the quantum of significant projects and\u00a0programmes\u00a0of work being undertaken, and we see that momentum continuing through 2025 and beyond.\u00a0We\u2019re\u00a0always drawn to large-scale, complex projects where we feel we can add the greatest value to our clients and will continue to focus on these across the construction and infrastructure sectors in the Middle East.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u201cOur focus is on partnering with past and current clients with whom\u00a0we\u2019ve\u00a0built strong, long-term relationships.\u00a0We\u2019re\u00a0proud of the\u00a0significant proportion\u00a0of engagements which\u00a0constitute\u00a0\u2018return-business\u2019.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u201cFrom my perspective, the key to all client interactions is actively listening, and understanding the fundamental challenges, and root causes, that your clients are dealing with. Once you genuinely understand the key issues, you can work collaboratively to define\u00a0appropriate solutions.
