What is your current role at TBH?
I am a Director at TBH, based in our Singapore office, working on projects across South-East Asia.
My main area of focus is Strategic Advisory Services, offering due diligence and lenders technical advisory services. Currently, we work primarily with data centre developers, but we are expanding to provide these services within the renewable energy and infrastructure sectors.
What value does this service offer clients?
As project delivery requires compliance and efficiency in design, challenging construction timelines and resource constraints, due diligence is the first hurdle. As advisors, we help developers ensure that their proposals are financially bankable, technically feasible, and based on a realistic risk assessment, so I see advisory work as project creation.
What did you study, and what made you decide on a career in consulting and ultimately at TBH?
My academic background is in civil engineering with a specialty in geotechnical engineering. My experience extends over 30 years in the design and supervision of transportation infrastructure projects, but I have also worked in the advisory sector, which I found challenging and fascinating. Consequently, I jumped at the chance to spend more time in advisory when TBH offered me the opportunity.
In regard to your career, what are you passionate about?
There is nothing more rewarding to me than being part of a team that successfully delivers a project that makes people’s lives easier or safer. So, projects such as urban rail infrastructure, enhanced water distribution or sewer collection systems, requiring multiple interfaces and stakeholder buy-in, especially when private finance is involved, will remain at the top of the list by virtue of my career to date.
I have found, however, that my exposure to the IT sector is changing that perception due to the importance that society attaches to having access to information and services that rely on data centres and network connections to operate.
What major innovations or industry trends are you most excited about?
It is exciting to see how consumer behaviour is evolving in favour of renewable and low-carbon energy sources. Renewable and low carbon energy development is necessary to mitigate global warming. There are many ways we can help with this journey; to ensure that such projects are not only technically feasible but also financially bankable.
What difference are you hoping to make for TBH in the region you work in?
I have worked in design and construction supervision on projects across Southeast Asia for over 30 years; I am keen to utilise my practical on-site experiences of the construction industry in the region and couple this with TBH’s best practices for project delivery to benefit of our clients’ projects.
