The Sydney Biomedical Accelerator (SBA) is\u00a0a new, state-of-the-art research facility that integrates fundamental science with clinical research and innovation.\u00a0It is a partnership between the\u00a0University of Sydney,\u00a0the Sydney Local Health District, and the NSW Government.\u00a0Located on the University’s Camperdown campus and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital campus, the project aims to accelerate the translation of biomedical discoveries into treatments for complex diseases like cancer, vision, and cardiovascular diseases.\u00a0Construction began in 2025, with completion anticipated in 2028<\/p>\n
The 36,000-square-metre complex will\u00a0feature a range of research and educational spaces, such as PC2 and PC3 laboratories, GMP cleanrooms, a biobank, high-performance computing, precision medicine facilities, and spaces for surgery, mortuary, and anatomy research and teaching. The complex will also include core research facilities, clinical trial areas, and an innovation hub for industry partners.<\/p>\n

TBH was engaged by the University of Sydney to provide independent planning advisory services for this project. As part of this role TBH has been involved in developing independent master programmes to assist with forecasting and interrogating the staging and operational impacts of the project on the campus & surrounding areas.<\/p>\n
TBH has also been engaged on the project to assist through the design development and delivery phases, providing commercial and planning advice, reviewing & validating Contractor programmes, and undertaking ongoing monitoring and reporting of the project for the University.<\/p>\n
