Project Overview
The Athens 2004 Olympic Games marked the return of the Games to their historic birthplace, showcasing Greece to a global audience. The program required a vast city-wide renewal effort, delivering a combination of new and refurbished sporting venues, expanded transport networks, upgraded utilities, and temporary event overlays. The works were undertaken within tight timeframes and in a highly sensitive cultural and heritage environment, demanding meticulous planning to balance modern functionality with Athens’ historical character and long-term urban legacy.
TBH’s Role
- Developing and advising on the integrated master programme and delivery strategy.
- Conducting constructability assessments, optioneering, and procurement pathway studies.
- Providing delivery risk/value management advice, Olympic overlay and conversion planning, and city-wide infrastructure coordination.
Value Created
TBH’s contribution was critical in maintaining schedule confidence and delivery assurance for one of the most complex infrastructure and event programs Greece had ever undertaken. By aligning stakeholder priorities, mitigating risks, and ensuring an integrated approach across venues, transport, and utilities, TBH helped Athens deliver the Games on time while enhancing its long-term urban fabric and preserving its cultural identity.
