Adelaide Desalination Project

Project Overview

The Adelaide Desalination Project (ADP) is a megaproject which includes a seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant, a pumping station, undersea tunnels and staged delivery of power supplies. The ADP was a critical project which has now drought proofed metropolitan Adelaide by providing up to 100,000 million litres of drinkable water per year.

 

SA Water engaged TBH to establish and provide monitoring and time management services for this project. TBH supported SA Water with the assessment of major tenders in 2008 and provided planning, scheduling and time management services throughout the life of the project. Subsequently, the activity achieved final project handover ahead of time and within budget in 2012.

 

TBH’s Role

As part of the SA Water Team, TBH provided analysis, advice and engaged regularly and openly with the D&C contractors identifying issues and solutions. The main contractor for the desalination facility was the AdelaideAqua (AA) consortium comprised of Abigroup, McConnell Dowell and Acciona Agua. The desalination technology from Acciona Agua is now providing world class energy efficiency.

 

TBH provided up to three FTE planners/schedulers to SA Water throughout the construction phase of the project and is still supporting the project after handover. In addition SA Water asked TBH to provide up to five schedulers to support AA.

 

ADP was awarded the PMI Project of the Year (Australia) for Excellence in Project Management, PMI Professional Awards Project of the Year (International), as well as the International IPMA Gold Winner prize in Project Excellence for Mega Projects in 2013.
