Project Overview
The John Hunter Health Campus redevelopment will enhance facilities and expand capacity to meet the needs of Greater Newcastle, Hunter New England, and northern NSW.
The John Hunter Health and Innovation Precinct is an $835 million expansion of the existing John Hunter Hospital campus in Newcastle, Australia. As one of New South Wales’ largest regional health investments, the precinct is designed to integrate clinical care, research, and education.
The precinct will feature a new acute services building that will house expanded health services and facilities, including a new Emergency Department, increased adult and paediatric critical care capacity, a new birthing suite and inpatient maternity unit, an expanded Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Special Care Nursery, new operating theatres, interventional, and procedure spaces and the Hunter Health Innovation Lab, a partnership with the University of Newcastle.
TBH’s Role
As part of this project TBH has developed an overall project Master Programme that included the finalisation of design development, a separate enabling works contract and the construction of the new ASB.
Since the original engagement TBH has continued to partner with the Health Infrastructure NSW and project management teams to provide technical programming advice and support through the delivery of the project. This has included reviewing Contractor programmes, assessing Contractor EOT & Variation claims, and ongoing independent monitoring and reporting of the Contractor’s performance.
As part of this ongoing advisor role TBH has been able to assist the project team in identifying delivery risks early, helping the project team time to sufficiently plan for the successful completion of the major health project.
