New Western Australian Museum

Australia

Project Overview

The new museum project involves the redevelopment of the existing WA Museum located at James Street, Perth. The new Western Australian Museum will be the state’s cultural heart and the most significant cultural development in the southern hemisphere. The redevelopment links the existing WA Museum heritage building to a much larger, overarching modern structure, with a wide-open public plaza in the centre. The design includes nearly 7,000 m2 of galleries, as well as a single 1,000 m2 space for exhibitions, education studios, viewing areas and retail outlets. The project involves a vast range of challenges in relation to interface between Western Australian Museum and the Managing Contractor, as well as heritage works.

TBH’s Role

TBH was involved in the negotiation phase for awarding the project to the Managing Contractor, particularly in relation to preliminary planning works and review of tender programmes.

Post Contract award TBH have been involved in reviewing the Managing Contractor’s programme and providing ongoing programme advice to the State in relation to approvals and procurement. TBH will continue to be involved providing programming advice to the State for the life of the project through to Practical Completion.
