Project Overview
Energy Australia initiated the Tallawarra Power Station H2 Injection Project to implement a hydrogen (H2) injection scheme into their cutting-edge Tallawarra Power Station. The primary objective is to enhance the power peak by 5%, utilising a natural gas combined cycle power station. The existing power station, located in New South Wales, currently produces 425MW and plays a vital role in supplying electricity to the state during periods of high demand.
TBH’s Role
TBH was engaged by Energy Australia to provide estimating services for the Tallawarra Power Station H2 Injection Project. TBH’s scope of work included the production of a Class 4 estimate for the total construction cost, encompassing GE procured plant and construction. Additionally, TBH conducted a thorough review of the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) construction price and delivered a P50 risk-adjusted estimate.
Energy Australia enlisted TBH based on their expertise and extensive experience in working with H2 and clean energy projects. TBH’s approach involved a combination of top-down and bottom-up methodologies in producing the estimate. TBH played a pivotal role in identifying potential risks and unknown factors associated with the project, enabling the creation of a well considered P50 risk-adjusted estimate together with a sensitivity analysis for management to understand the most significant factors impacting final cost.
The TBH Difference
TBH’s involvement in the project marked a significant difference in ensuring the success and viability of the Tallawarra Power Station H2 Injection Project. The consultancy leveraged its deep knowledge of H2 and green energy clients, allowing them to deliver a comprehensive estimate that accounted for potential risks and uncertainties. This approach provided Energy Australia with a robust foundation for decision-making.
By adopting a top-down and bottom-up strategy, TBH meticulously assessed various aspects of the project, offering a holistic understanding of the potential challenges and opportunities. This not only provided Energy Australia with a reliable estimate but also equipped them with valuable insights into the project’s intricacies to support delivery of this challenging project.
