Pacific Hwy Upgrade – Tintenbar to Ewingsdale (T2E)

Australia

Project Overview

The Tintenbar to Ewingsdale upgrade of the Pacific Highway is 16.3km of dual carriageway, starting at the northern end of the Ballina bypass at Ross Lane and extending to the Ewingsdale interchange.

The upgrade includes the construction of the St Helena Tunnel, a twin-tube road tunnel under St Helena Hill located near Ewingsdale.

The tunnel is being built to avoid the steep grades of St Helena Hill and associated heavy truck noise and pollution.

It is approximately 340m (1,120 ft) long and 45m below the 131m high ridge line. The tunnel will comprise two road tunnels, one southbound and one northbound, each with two traffic lanes.

The project was jointly funded by the state and federal governments.

TBH’s Role

TBH was engaged by Lend Lease to perform an independent health check of the project programme. This included reviewing planned performance against actual productivity and reviewing sequencing of construction tasks. TBH also prepared a time chainage diagram to provide a single A3 page view of the project programme to be used as a communication tool.
