Project Overview

When the Brisbane Broncos relocated to Suncorp Stadium, a vacancy arose at Brisbane’s QEII Stadium (now Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre – QSAC). The Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) decided to occupy the space, requiring an internal refurbishment to create a purpose-built home for its operations.

The project was delivered in two phases: first, demolition and refurbishment of the internal structure to include a gymnasium, biological and physiological laboratory (with environmental chamber), library, lecture theatre, and dedicated facilities for coaches and physicians. Second, the full relocation of the QAS to the new facility over a single weekend to ensure uninterrupted operations from the next business day.

The schedule was developed ahead of the design stage and successfully met, allowing QAS athletes’ training to continue without disruption. Achieving this required recovery planning and detailed reorganisation of trades to maintain progress despite challenges.

TBH’s Role

  • Developing an integrated design and construction schedule to enable a seamless relocation within tight timeframes.
  • Monitoring and reporting schedule progress monthly, identifying risks and emerging issues.
  • Assisting the construction managers with recovery strategies and trade reorganisation plans to maintain delivery momentum.

Value Created

TBH’s scheduling expertise enabled QAS to relocate without disruption to its operations, delivering a fully functional, purpose-built facility within the agreed timeframe. Proactive management of risks and recovery actions ensured continuity for the athletes and staff.
