Project Overview
Brookfield Rail’s MidWest Rail Upgrade involved upgrading approximately 185km of its existing rail infrastructure from Morawa north through Mullewa and west to Geraldton Port to enable development, growth and long-term sustainability in the mid-West region.
This project was the largest investment project to be undertaken on the State’s rail network in the last 40 years. It replaced the entire main line and supports the significant increase in tonnages to be delivered to Geraldton Port, and ultimately, the proposed new deepwater Oakajee Port by existing and future miners in the region.
The upgrade completely transformed the rail network in the MidWest, significantly increasing rail capacity from 3Mtpa to 25Mtpa, and has the potential to go well beyond to 75Mtpa.
TBH’s Role

In practice, this involved:
- Assessing existing material
- Identifying gaps
- Developing fit- for purpose documentation
- Mapping and development
- Integrating these into a consolidated project management framework
