Project Overview
Following the successful relocation and refurbishment of the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS), delivered on time and under budget, the Major Sport Facilities Association approved two further projects at the QEII Stadium (now QSAC). The first was the refurbishment of an existing sports hall, incorporating a new sprung floor, painting, acoustic panelling, and upgraded lighting. The second was the construction of an international-standard beach volleyball facility, including two show courts, four practice courts, and an amenities block with seating for 3,000 spectators. Both projects were delivered concurrently, each with tight timelines — eight months for the sports hall and one year for the volleyball facility — requiring accelerated, closely monitored schedules to meet the deadlines.
TBH’s Role
- Developing an integrated design and construction schedule to manage the concurrent delivery of both projects within the compressed timeframes.
- Providing ongoing monitoring and monthly status reporting on schedule progress, identifying emerging risks and performance issues.
- Advising construction managers on recovery strategies and mitigation plans to address delays and maintain delivery momentum.
Value Created
TBH’s planning and schedule management expertise enabled the successful delivery of both facilities within the client’s challenging time and budget constraints. The proactive identification of risks and provision of recovery advice supported the construction teams in meeting their milestones despite the accelerated programmes.
