Project Overview
The Global Switch Ultimo (GSU) Data Centre Relocation Project was a critical initiative of the Australian Government’s Chief Information Officer Group (CIOG) Infrastructure Transformation Program (ITP). It relatea to the relocation of Defence and Single Information Environments (SIE) from GSU to another more secure location in Sydney.
The end state of the GSU Data Centre Relocation Project was that all Secret Systems and networks currently residing within GSU be relocated to an alternate data centre, providing required protections for data security & data sovereignty, and operating within agreed Service Levels. The high-level support concept was that the SIE will continue to be supported in a similar manner after the GSU Data Centre Relocation Project concludes
TBH’s Role
TBH was engaged by Telstra’s specialist Defence Business Unit to undertake the following:
- Oversee project deliverables and quality assurance;
- Provide specialist management support to the Program Executive including programme integration, issue mitigation, resolving project variations, developing and implementing mitigation strategies, manage project risks and issues, and providing strategic advice and support for the project delivery.
- Responsible for development and driving project schedule, including management of key interdependency points with stakeholders.
- Provide schedule analysis and reviews as requested for Impact Statements and Project Variations to support executive management.
- Key point of communication with client regarding project status, priorities and obtaining necessary sign off to progress the works.
The TBH Difference
TBH played a pivotal role in turning around the delivery of the project by providing targeted project management expertise and rigorous schedule control. Brought in following a senior management review that flagged significant delivery concerns, TBH quickly embedded within the Telstra team to identify root causes and implement corrective
actions.
Working collaboratively, the team removed delivery blockages, stabilised the program, and ultimately brought the project back on track—delivering it in line with the original baseline.
The confidence generated through this successful recovery directly contributed to Telstra’s ability to secure further project work with CIOG, demonstrating renewed delivery credibility and capability.
