Supporting the delivery of major transmission infrastructure underpinning Australia’s energy transition.
Project Overview
As coal-fired generation retires and renewable energy generation expands rapidly across regional Australia, significant investment is required to expand and modernise the transmission network through a coordinated portfolio of The Australian Energy Market Operator’s (AEMO’s) Integrated System Plan identifies these Priority Transmission Projects as essential to supporting the energy transition. The Australian Government’s Rewiring the Nation program is supporting delivery of these projects by providing up to multi billion dollars in concessional finance through the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) to accelerate transmission investment across the National Electricity Market (NEM).
Expanding the transmission network will enable renewable energy zones to connect to major demand centres, strengthen interconnection between states, and support secure, reliable and affordable electricity for consumers.
TBH’s Role
TBH has supported clients across several Priority Transmission Projects identified in AEMO’s Integrated System Plan, forming part of the Rewiring the Nation investment pipeline. Working with network operators, project proponents and delivery partners, TBH contributes to the delivery of critical infrastructure that supports Australia’s transition to a reliable, low-emissions electricity system.
This includes:
- Supporting multiple major transmission infrastructure projects across the National Electricity Market;
- Engagement across the NEM in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, and Tasmania; and
- Delivery of projects formally identified by AEMO’s Integrated System Plan.
TBH has provided services across the project lifecycle, including Strategic Advisory, Integrated Project Controls, Planning and Programming, Cost Estimation, Quantitative Risk Analysis and Smart reporting.
Priority Transmission Projects supported by TBH include:
Interconnectors and major network expansions or augmentations:
- Project EnergyConnect (NSW – SA)
- CopperString 2032 (QLD)
- Marinus Link (VIC–TAS)
- HumeLink (NSW)
- VNI West (NSW)
- Kerang Link (VIC)
- Sydney Ring (NSW)
- Hunter Transmission Program (NSW)
Renewable Energy Zone transmission infrastructure:
- Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (NSW)
- New England Renewable Energy Zone (NSW)
- Hunter and Central Coast Renewable Energy Zone (NSW)
The TBH Difference
The scale and pace of transmission development and delivery required to support Australia’s energy transition have not been seen for several decades. Transmission projects face significant delivery challenges, including complex planning approvals, complicated funding and regulatory pathways, technical challenges, land access negotiations, community engagement requirements, social licence and supply-chain constraints.
TBH combines its strategic advisory capability in the management of time, cost, and risk and contingency with extensive project delivery experience to help clients manage these challenges.
Our services span project, portfolio and program-level delivery, providing insights into areas such as:
- coordination across concurrent major projects;
- allocation of critical resources;
- procurement and delivery strategy; and
- mapping out and navigating complex planning and regulatory pathways, and other development activities.
With this approach, TBH supports clients in delivering the infrastructure required to enable Australia’s energy transition and security.
