West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD)
Hong Kong

Project Overview

The West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD) is a development project that aims to form an international-grade arts and culture hub on an area of land in West Kowloon, Hong Kong. WKCD will create an iconic presence on the project’s site overlooking Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour, which will include 17 arts and cultural venues, and a 23-hectare park, which will incorporate an open air performance space.

Key elements of the development is the M+ museum and the Lyric Theatre. The M+ is the museum for visual culture, focusing on 20th and 21st century art, design and architecture and moving image. The Lyric Theatre will be a centre of excellence showcasing the best of Hong Kong and international dance and theatre.

TBH’s Role

In 2014, TBH was engaged by Faithful+Gould which in turn is part of the Atkins’ led Project Management Consultant (PMC) for the Museum for Visual Culture (M+), Lyric Theatre and the conservation and storage facility. Atkins’ is providing these services for the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, with Atkins performing the role of client Project Manager and Contract Administrator. TBH’s role is to develop and oversee the master programme, develop tender programmes and facilitate the contract award process and well as support the project through ongoing monitoring and reporting of the project progress. TBH is also responsible for administering the risk management process.

Adoption of Microsoft Visio to graphically simplify the complex programme to enable ease of understanding for all stakeholders.

The TBH Difference

TBH provided a fully integrated project programme managing interfaces across works managed by it, as well as identifying interfaces with bordering projects not managed it. This enabled the identification of risks and opportunities in advance.
