Meet the Changemakers with Farhad Mobarra

What is your current role at TBH?

I am an Associate at TBH. My primary focus is on Claims and Dispute Resolution projects; however, I also contribute to Planning and Scheduling projects as needed. Additionally, I serve as an assistant lecturer at Curtin University, where I assist with Project Management units.

Why do you find these services and industries interesting?

I enjoy working on Claims and Dispute Resolution projects due to the challenging nature of the work, which requires creative problem-solving techniques. As a result, I get the occasion to work on different types of cases with different clients and industries, which keeps my work interesting and dynamic.

Through my experience working with diverse colleagues, I have developed my teamwork and collaboration skills, and as a result, my communication and negotiation skills have also improved. The satisfaction and fulfillment I get from successfully resolving disputes and assisting my clients reach their objectives is an added bonus.

What did you study, and what made you decide on a career at TBH?

My degree is in industrial engineering, and I have a Master of Science in Project Management. After dedicating 12 rewarding years to Western Power, I felt compelled to seek new challenges and opportunities for professional growth. While I could have continued at Western Power until retirement, my desire to expand my skill set and work in a more dynamic environment led me to join TBH. By choosing this path, I reinforced my commitment to continuous learning and professional development, giving me fresh challenges in a new industry while building on my existing expertise

What major projects have you worked on while at TBH?

Based on the confidential nature of the projects, I cannot provide specific details about project names, locations or dates. However, I can say that at TBH, I have worked on several major infrastructure and industrial projects, including:

  • Mining projects involving delay analysis and preparation of extension of time (EOT) claims.
  • Industrial plant projects such as ammonia facilities, where I conducted delay analysis and prepared claims.
  • Large-scale processing facilities, assisting with delay analysis and claims for electrical work components.
  • Major road and tunnel projects, providing delay analysis and claims support for electrical installation works.
  • Significant road construction projects, conducting delay analysis.

Can you share some of the key highlights and accomplishments from your professional journey?

While I was working at Western Power as a Senior Program Governance Manager, I created a comprehensive resource and outage planning tool from the ground up that provides work bundling, multiple progress reports, resource requirement histograms, a long-term workload overview, customer outage views, line outage insights, list of carry-over tasks, and various ad hoc reports for both substations and transmission line networks.

Thanks to the use of this innovative tool, annual maintenance volumes increased by 18% to 27% across three different maintenance programs. This was due to improved outage coordination and planning. Additionally, this action saved approximately $1 million of taxpayers’ money in the fiscal year of 21/22 by identifying scope conflicts between CAPEX and OPEX programs and avoiding unnecessary work.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about data-driven innovation and smart data usage as I see the potential of data to uncover trends, provide valuable insights that can drive informed decision-making, and create meaningful change within organizations or communities. I enjoy using analytical skills to tackle challenges, find solutions, and contribute to improvements in various fields.

What major innovations or industry trends are you most excited about?

I believe that advancements in generative AI and machine learning will dramatically transform our interactions with technology and the way we access information. As these technologies evolve, they enable more intuitive and personalized experiences, allowing us to engage with devices and applications in ways that feel natural and seamless.

Moreover, the ability of machine learning algorithms to analyse vast amounts of data will unlock new opportunities for knowledge discovery and decision-making. In a consultancy environment, harnessing these powerful tools allows us to optimize resource allocation, risk assessment, leverage smart data usage to automate scheduling solutions and increase efficiency with recurring tasks.

What difference are you hoping to make for TBH in the region you work in?

My focus at TBH is on expanding our client base and enhancing our reputation through strong local relationships. By understanding our clients’ unique challenges, I aim to offer targeted services that solidify our leadership in project advisory and dispute resolution. This approach is designed to drive growth, establish TBH as a key regional player, and create lasting value for our clients. Because when our clients succeed, we all succeed.
