Meet the Changemakers with Pratik Dalai

What is your current role at TBH?

I am a Senior Consultant based in TBH’s Dubai office, specializing in planning, claims, and dispute resolution for major infrastructure and building projects. Drawing on my prior experience in main contracting across the Middle East, I support clients in optimizing project delivery through close collaboration with all stakeholders and a clear understanding of project requirements. As part of my role, I also work proactively to foresee and highlight potential project risks, helping clients make informed decisions early in the project lifecycle.

Why do you find these services and industries interesting?

What makes Consulting in the construction industry so compelling is its unique blend of tangible impact, variety, and constant challenge. No two projects are ever the same, which keeps the work dynamic and engaging. Every day presents a new circumstance, a fresh challenge, a different approach, or even a dispute to navigate. This continuous evolution means that no matter how experienced you are, there is always something new to learn.

One of the most rewarding aspects is collaborating with professionals from diverse backgrounds, each bringing their own expertise and perspectives. You quickly realize that there’s rarely a single “right” way to solve a problem, and that adaptability and open-mindedness are key.

The services we provide often involve striking a balance between time, cost, quality, and stakeholder priorities, often at scale. And on a lighter note, there’s something deeply satisfying about being able to point to an iconic structure and say, “I was part of making that happen”.

What did you study, and what made you decide on a career in consulting and ultimately at TBH?

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a postgraduate degree in Advanced Construction Management. My career started as a planner on construction sites with a main contractor, where I gained invaluable first-hand experience in how projects are executed on the ground. That period laid the technical foundation of my career and helped me appreciate the real-world complexities of project delivery.

As I progressed, I found myself increasingly interested in the broader strategic side of projects, how time, cost, and quality are balanced, how risks are managed, and how decisions at key moments can shape outcomes. Consulting felt like a natural next step. It offered the chance to apply my site-based experience across a wider range of projects, industries, and roles, sometimes representing the client, and at other times the contractor, or even acting as a neutral advisor. That variety and pace of learning really appealed to me.

I had long heard of TBH through peers, both those who had worked at the firm and those who had engaged its services. The feedback was always consistent: a professional, values-driven culture with high standards of delivery. So, when the opportunity arose to make the shift into consulting with TBH, it was an easy decision.

What major projects have you worked on while at TBH?

During my time at TBH, I’ve had the opportunity to contribute to a diverse range of projects across sectors and regions. My first assignment was to support a contractor with the tender preparation for a high-profile, iconic development in Saudi Arabia. We led the planning scope for the bid and were actively involved in coordinating inputs across multiple stakeholders to ensure a cohesive and timely submission.

Following that, I was involved in the preparation and assessment of several claims across a range of sectors, including high-rise mixed-use towers, an ammonia power plant, and a major residential masterplan. I also supported a contractor in resolving a complex, EOT dispute concerning a luxury private development in Dubai, providing strategic input and planning expertise to strengthen their position.

More recently, I have been a part of the team that developed the tender and master baseline programme for a major metro project in the region, a high-value, multi-package infrastructure initiative requiring coordination across numerous disciplines and stakeholders.

Tell us about a career highlight!

One of my career highlights at TBH has been working on the tender programme for a major metro project in the region. This assignment required intensive coordination with our client and multiple stakeholders, given the substantial level of detail involved. Through several rounds of clarifications and collaborative meetings, I strongly believe our efforts contributed to the client winning the contract.

Following the successful tender, the client entrusted us with preparing the detailed baseline programme. I was fortunate to work alongside an exceptional team and a supportive mentor, Emrah Uluverdi, enabling us to deliver and secure approval of the programme within a notably short timeframe, something that is rarely achieved in the region.

Subsequently, the client appointed TBH to provide ongoing planning services during project execution and selected me to lead their planning division, a testament to the value and trust they placed in our contributions.

In regard to your career, what are you passionate about?

I am passionate about making a meaningful difference. In every role and capacity, whether consulting for a client or contributing internally at TBH, I focus on delivering tangible, measurable results. The opportunity to solve complex problems and produce impactful outcomes motivates me to continuously push my limits.

In consulting, where providing sound, well-reasoned advice is paramount, this passion aligns perfectly with the core of my work. Ultimately, it’s about creating lasting value and making a real impact on the projects I’m involved in, while also supporting my peers, growing together through shared experiences, and passing on my learning to new joiners, helping to maintain and strengthen TBH’s “one team” culture.

What major innovations or industry trends are you most excited about?

There has been significant research and development in artificial intelligence and its applications across many industries. I am particularly excited about the potential impact of AI on the construction sector, which, compared to others, remains less organized and heavily reliant on manual labour and on-site problem-solving.

It will be fascinating to see how modern technologies can streamline processes, reduce construction costs and timelines, and maintain, if not enhance, quality. Embracing these innovations has the potential to transform project delivery and overall industry efficiency.

What difference are you hoping to make for TBH in the region you work in?

For me, the foundation of any successful project lies in truly understanding and identifying the core challenges faced by our clients. It’s not enough to simply resolve the immediate issue, every discussion, decision, and action should be purpose-driven to raise the overall standards and create lasting, positive change.

At TBH, I aim to champion this client-centric approach by consistently delivering solutions that go beyond expectations and drive genuine improvements in project outcomes. By fostering open communication and collaboration, I strive to anticipate challenges early and tailor our services to meet the evolving needs of our clients.

Ultimately, my goal is to contribute to strengthening TBH’s reputation as a trusted advisor in the region, one that not only solves problems but also helps elevate the industry through innovation, integrity, and excellence.
